Renew a licence

Renew the offline licence before the 30 days of grace run out.

Renewal is offline: no connection to 4M is needed from the edge PC. See Licence for what the licence holds and how it is checked.

When

The Web UI shows a renewal notice from the day after the licence expires, with the last day of grace. Questions are answered for 30 days after expiry; after that the Assistant stops answering until a renewed licence is installed. Renew before the expiry date to avoid the notice.

Steps

1. On the edge PC, print its machine identifier:

``bash python -m settings.licence machine-id ``

1. Send the identifier and the site name to your 4M contact. 4M returns a signed licence.json bound to that edge PC.
2. Copy the file to the edge PC and install it:

``bash python -m settings.licence install licence.json --public /config/licence.pub ``

It is refused if the signature does not match 4M's key or the file was issued for another PC; the current licence then stays in place.

1. Check it with python -m settings.licence show. The Assistant picks up the new file by itself: the notice and the platform alarm clear, with no restart.

Replacing the edge PC

A new edge PC has a new machine identifier, so it needs its own licence: send 4M the new identifier before the move.
